One of my Facebook friends has been posting a question of the day for the past few months, and earlier this week his question was "Reflecting on this past year, what accomplishment are you most proud of?". It really got me thinking about 2020 as a whole year and though it was a wild year and there were certainly a lot of good things that happened for me as well.
As we get to the end of the year, I'm trying to reflect on all of the positives that happened this year, while moving past the negatives the best I can. 2020 was certainly a hard year, and I never want to just gloss over that, but I also want to make sure that we acknowledge that it wasn't a waste of a year. Everyone accomplished something in 2020, even if that is just getting through 2020.
So today I'm going to go through some of the things I am most proud of accomplishing in 2020!
- I learned a LOT of new skills for work. I had to figure out how to make virtual musical theatre for kids... and that was hard! I learned how to use Zoom, Garageband and how to adapt scripts for webcam theater. I learned how to keep kids engaged during a virtual class, and how to teach music even when they can't all sing at once. Though I hope I soon never have to do another Zoom-sical, I am so proud of the ones that my actors did put on this year!
- I launched a lot of new StyledByKaylaXO stuff! This website launched in February before the lockdowns, but I've still continued to launch more within the hardest parts of the year. My podcast, Life, Styled, launched in May, I started my weekly emails in August, and launched my first ever merch line in November! I'm so excited about the growth SBK has had this year and super proud of myself!
- I spent a lot of time reading! To date I have read 135 books this year! Which is more than each year since I graduated High School combined I'm pretty sure! I launched my bookstagram and have connected with all sorts of fellow reader friends!
- I took on two volunteer roles in my sorority! I'm both an alumnae chapter officer and a college chapter advisor. It has been so incredible to reconnect with this organization that I love so much!
- And most importantly - I survived 2020!
I hope you all have a chance to reflect on this year and find some good in your year as well. Let's continue to look forward to 2021, but make sure we remember that even though it was awful, 2020 wasn't a waste.
xo,
Kayla
