Let's Talk About Audiobooks

So there is no Read with Kayla post this week because I only read one book this week... I know! SCANDAL! It's been a pretty busy work week and so the only chance I had to read was during my commutes to the gym and work and during my workouts. This week I dove back into my audible account and used my credit to buy a book I'd been wanting to read for awhile.

Now I usually have only used audible for non-fiction books. Listening to a non-fiction book feels exactly the same as listening to a podcast for me, so that's what I've always done. I had always been hesitant to listen to fiction books on audible because I thought it wouldn't be as good of an experience as reading one myself. Which to be fair, I was right about. It's not as good, but that doesn't mean it isn't good.

I listened to my first fiction audiobook over the summer. I decided to start with some lighter YA to dip my toes in. The book I chose was one I'd wanted to read for a while - "Everything Everything" by Nicola Yoon. I LOVED IT. Not only was the book great, but I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it being read. The narrator was fabulous and flawlessly moved through the different character voices that made it so easy to track dialogue. It was an awesome experience.

This most recent listen was no different! The narrators were in fact, very similar. I had to double check to make sure it wasn't the same woman! This week's listen was "From Blood and Ash" by Jennifer L. Armentrout. Going from a more traditional YA to fantasy was a big leap, so I was a little nervous about trying to track a new fantasy world through an audiobook, but it was easier than I thought. The only rough part (for me!) was listening to the steamy scenes! It was funny to be driving along the freeway listening to that for sure! I always laughed whenever I drove past someone and knew they had NO IDEA what was playing in my car!

So, moral of the story - I can handle fiction audiobooks. I definitely will still listen to my non-fiction ones as well, but I want to branch out more and start using my audible credits on more fiction!

What is your favorite audiobook?

Kayla
