My Work From Home Essentials

I am at almost two months of working from home and I think I have finally gotten myself in a productive work from home routine! These are some of the essentials to my work from home day.

  1. Comfy Clothes: I am definitely dressing like a slob these days. I have been living in sweatpants and crew necks. Now normally when I go to work I'm in active wear half the time because I'm teaching acting classes, so this isn't much different than my normal. But I definitely have purchased a lot of sweats and sweatshirts during this time.

  2. Blue Light Glasses: Another normal work essential that have become even more important while working at home. I'm spending almost twice as much time on my computer now that we aren't doing in person classes and it is sucking for my eyes. I love my Veux x Sarah's Day glasses!

  3. Giant Water Bottle: I don't usually bring my 40oz bottle to the office because it's heavy and annoying to lug around, but at home it is perfect! I don't have to constantly go up and down the stairs to refill it and it lasts through all of my Zoom meetings!

  4. My Bed: I originally was adamant that I wouldn't work from my bed at all and only sit at my desk, but as time went on and I got more frustrated with working from home it became a great comfort. If I'm getting too overwhelmed I either move to my bed to work, or take a break and curl up in bed and watch TV or read for a little bit and get right back. to work!

  5. Google Calendar: I use Google Calendar to organize my life every day, but it has become even more important at home. I block out every second of the day with exactly what I'm doing. It has made staying on track and keeping my boss updated much easier!

  6. Online Classes/Webinars: I am taking all sorts of classes right now. Some relate to work, some relate to SBK and others are just for my own growth and curiosity. If I'm ever feeling in a rut I always jump online, learn something, and then get back to work!

  7. Goals: Setting goals is crucial to achieving anything, but in this time I'm setting even more. I'm setting tiny incremental goals to keep me on track, and long term goals for what I want my life and work to look like after lockdown.

  8. Pre-work Routine: My morning routine is sacred. I've noticed during lockdown it has really had an impact on my work day more so than before. If one thing is off from my morning routine, I don't feel right starting my work day. Habits matter people.

What has been the most important thing for your work from home success?

Kayla
