The last two weeks have been a bit busy for me, so I didn't have a ton of time to read. It also didn't help that I chose two VERY long and EXTREMELY emotionally taxing books to read back to back. I finished two series that I loved to end out January, and definitely took my time with both because I was sad to see them end, knowing full well that both authors have moved on from these worlds. So let's dive in!
This one I have been putting off reading for a long time, but knew I needed to finish it before Victoria's next book (Realm Breaker) comes out in May.
I really enjoyed this entire series and was sad to see it end. The action in this book was incredibly detailed and vivid, as was the magic per usual. I really felt like I was able to dive into this world. Am I a little bummed about how Mare and Cal's story ends? Yes. But I think had what I expected happened I would've ultimately been to smug about getting it right to enjoy it, so I am happy with how this book wrapped up. I feel like the story is wrapped up nicely. Could she go back into this world and write more? Absolutely. But do I feel like I'm missing something that really needs to be written for me as a reader to feel done with this series? Not at all. And I feel like that really is how a series should end - room for more, but you don't necessarily HAVE to write more.

I really did not want to let this series go... at all. I really loved this world and the characters and would happily read 100 more books about Aelin and her adventures. This was an incredibly satisfying finale to an epic series. There were twists and turns I didn't expect. I laughed, I cried, I thought I was going to have either a heart or panic attack several times. It was everything the final chapter of Aelin's (and Dorian's and Chaol's) story needed to be. One thing I've really loved about this series is how my favorite character has changed with every book, but this time it didn't. From Tower of Dawn through the end of Kingdom of Ash my favorite character stayed the same, and it was one I would've never expected when we were first introduced to her in The Assassin's Blade - Yrene. I LOVED Yrene in this book, potentially even more than in ToD. All in all, I'm incredibly sad to have finished this series, but I know it is one I'll come back to!
