Read with Kayla - September 20th to 26th

Happy book list day! This week I read 7 books in an effort to power through my September TBR! I wasn't quite sure I was going to make it but I have 2 books left and 4 days, so it is very possible I might! Woohoo! Stay tuned to the YouTube Channel this week for my October TBR list! Be sure to follow me on Instagram - ReadWithKaylaXO to see what I'm reading in real-time!

Physical/eBooks

1. The Wicked King by Holly Black

This week was a lot of revisiting series that I had aside to read others. I enjoyed this one so much more than The Cruel Prince. Jude is such an incredible character and I loved seeing her face adversity and stay strong through this book. Really excited to finish this trilogy!

Rating: ★★★★

Read if you love: Fae, enemies to lovers, twists

2. Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas

I've missed my girl Aelin so much! I switched SJM universes for most of September to power through ACOTAR, but it was so nice to get back into the Throne of Glass world! Queen of Shadows definitely reignited my love for these characters and I loved watching how their relationships changed with some epic reunions and new introductions. Super excited to jump into the next book in the series!

Rating: ★★★★★

Read if you love: badass women, magic, badass women!

3. The Roommate by Rosie Danan

Holy cannoli y'all! This book was so good and had some super steamy moments! I read it in one sitting... I love a good forced proximity romance, but this one was definitely unique in its approach. Clara was a super relatable character and made this story super interesting. We love the theme of destigmatizing women's pleasure too! All in all, an awesome, 18+, read!

Rating: ★★★★

Read if you love: romance, women's empowerment, steamy moments

4. King's Cage by Victoria Aveyard

I've missed Mare so much! I read Glass Sword at the end of August and haven't been back to Norta since, so it was nice to FINALLY read King's Cage. This book did not disappoint. I loved that there were multiple POVs and we got to see what was going on with Mare in the capital and with Cameron and the rest of the rebels while they were separated! So excited to read the conclusion to this awesome series!

Rating: ★★★★

Read if you love: badass women, magic, fighting the power

5. House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin A. Craig

Okay, so my friend Cori loaned me this book and I was a little skeptical because I am a wuss and several people had warned me that this book was a total "sleep with your lights on" style story. I'd say it wasn't quite that scary, but it definitely was spooky and full of twists and turns and mystery. This usually isn't my style, but I really loved this book! This twisted take on the 12 Dancing Princesses, was awesome! The perfect start to Fall read!

Rating: ★★★★

Read if you love: mystery, spooky, twists, family dramas

6. You Should See Me In A Crown by Leah Johnson

Never did I EVER think I would be crying tears of joy at the end of a book about a midwestern girl and prom, but here we are! This book is an absolute gem. I loved Liz and her drive to get what she wants, love for her family and no nonsense attitude. There is so much good stuff happening in this book beyond the prom story line! Loved it!

Rating: ★★★★

Read if you love: coming of age stories, friendship, powerful women

7. Midnight Sun by Stephenie Meyer

This book has been one I've been putting off for a while. Now don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed Twilight when I first read it in middle school and when I re-read it this spring, but I was DREADING getting into Edward's mind. There were definitely some moments that were exciting to see from Edward's perspective and I LOVED getting to hear the thoughts of a lot of the other characters through Edward's gift, but all in all this book was just kinda meh for me. The three star rating is mostly for nostalgia.

Rating: ★★★

Read if you love: Twilight... that's it...

I hope you all read lots of good books this month! See you in October!

xo,

Kayla
