Read with Kayla - September 6th to 12th

Remember how last week I promised you a WILD Read with Kayla this week because of Labor Day? Well... instead of spending all of Labor Day weekend reading, I spent it rewatching a certain magical movie franchise to kick off Fall... I did get some reading in this week though and even though there are only 4 books, some of these books were INCREDIBLE (like so good they may make my top list for this year)! Be sure to follow me on Instagram - ReadWithKaylaXO to see what I'm reading in real-time!

Physical/eBooks

1. Majesty (American Royals 2) by Katharine McGee

Y'all know how much I loved American Royals so I was so excited about jumping back into Beatrice, Samantha, Nina and Daphne's stories! Without spoiling the first book, we pick up on our four ladies when the world as they know it has completely changed for all four of them in different ways. I loved the way each of their storylines evolved and I'm still holding out hope for a third book!

Rating: ★★★★★

Read if you love: royalty, American history rethought, badass women

2. Star Daughter by Shveta Thakrar

This book was so cool! I picked it up because everyone and their mom were talking about it and the cover was so dang gorgeous. When I started to read it I was transported into a beautiful and intriguing world (that starts in New Jersey, so it really was surprising!) full of stars and magic and the things that connect us to our family and the universe. The characters were incredibly well rounded and I loved how the author tied in mythology, astronomy, Indian culture and the struggles of being a teenager into a beautiful, realistic, fantasy story. I want more from this universe!

Rating: ★★★★★

Read if you love: coming of age stories, mythology, music

ARCs/eARCs

(I received these eARCs from NetGalley and their respective publishers in exchange for my honest review)

1. She Proclaims: Our Declaration of Independence from a Man's World by Jennifer Palmieri (out now)

Though I enjoyed the sentiment and the information about the suffragists, this book felt very "look at me I'm a successful woman in Washington and all of you can be successful too". I lost count of how many times the author mentioned she worked in the Clinton and Obama White Houses. She also somehow managed to center the Monica Lewisnky scandal on herself and her guilt... that was the line for me.

Love the message, not a huge fan of how self-centered the delivery was.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me access to this eARC.

Rating: ★★

Read if you love: politics, suffragist history

2. Accidentally in Love by Belinda Missen (eReader version out now!)

This book is a gem! Art, Weddings, Romance, Drama - it has it all! I could not put it down. If you are looking for something sweet and fast paced, this is the Autumn read for you! Katharine is a wonderful relatable character and her relationship with her best friend, Lainey, felt very similar to friendships in my own life. I love the close family unit and chasing of dreams. Simply put, this was delightful.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for granting me access to this eARC!

Rating: ★★★★

Read if you love: romance, women following their dreams, art

I hope you all had a wonderful week and read some wonderful books!

xo,

Kayla
