Why I Started My Podcast

As you may have noticed, on May 8th I launched my newest creative endeavor - my podcast, "Life, Styled"! This has been a dream of mine for about a year and a half now and I am so excited that it is finally out in the world! Today I wanted to tell you all about this awesome new StyledByKaylaXO platform, and why I decided to take this on now!

Life, Styled is available on most major podcast platforms. To create and distribute my podcast I use the platform Anchor, which is a 100% FREE platform to produce podcasts! They have so many incredible features for editing your episodes and recording with guests. They also get your podcast sent out to the major platforms so you don't have to do that yourself! It was super easy to get started. I heard about anchor from some friends (who also use Anchor for their podcasts) and I have loved using it!

There are a few major reasons why I decided to start my podcast.

1. I love podcasts! They are the only type of media you can truly multitask while consuming and they are great for long drives to work. I love having people speak truth into my life, so self-help and motivation podcasts are my jam!

2. I wanted a way to make longer form content that people would actually want to consume. I'm completely capable of making a 40 minute YouTube video, but I know that most people don't want to watch a 40 minute video. It takes up a huge chunk of time that you can spend doing something else. Whereas you can listen to a 40 minute podcast while you are doing something else. That makes podcasts way more appealing for long form content!

3. As I mention in the intro episode to Life, Styled, I love to talk. The second biggest inside joke in my family about me growing up (after my nickname of "Grace" because I'm a huge klutz) was that if humans had a word limit, I would have been mute before Kindergarten. Though I'm still getting used to talking into a microphone in an empty room, I do love the fact that I can just talk and talk and talk about whatever topic is in my heart that day for a podcast.

4. I wanted more collaboration in my content. Though I can collaborate (and have) with others for YouTube videos, it is much easier to collaborate on podcasts. In an upcoming episode of Life, Styled I'm going to be talking about guilty pleasures and I really wanted to have my friend Elise join me to talk about one of our mutual guilty pleasures. Now if this was a YouTube video I'd have to drive to Portland or she'd have to drive to Puyallup or we'd have to do some fancy editing to make it happen. But with a podcast (and specifically one made using Anchor), I can just send her a link and she can join in on the recording session from her house while I'm at mine (super convenient also because we are all in isolation because of COVID-19).

There are currently two episodes of Life, Styled live. The first is all about dreams and goal setting, the second is about taking care of yourself - mind, body and soul! I have some exciting episodes coming up about personality and identity, and guilty pleasures. I'm always open to ideas about what I should talk about, so leave a comment and let me know what you'd love to hear on Life, Styled!

You can find Life, Styled on Anchor, Apple Podcasts, Spotify and so many more platforms! We also have an Instagram and Twitter account for updates on new episodes!

Please go check out the first episode of the podcast! I really hope you'll be able to take something away from it!

xo,

Kayla
